The Broken Family Band

brokenfamily-logo The Broken Family Band have been described as the best country band to operate on this side of the Atlantic, although they do seem to insist that they’re not playing country music …

Fronted by the pleasant-offstage-terrifying-onstage yelping dervish that is Steven Adams, and capable of turning some impressive Nashville three point turns with songs that recall the uneasy redneck chic of The Violent Femmes at their best, The Broken Family Band’s cocktail of old-fashioned rock ‘n roll and new-fangled arty pop is just a bloody good idea.

Their debut mini album on Snowstorm, The King Will Build A Disco not only has the sort of title that all records should be forced to have by law, but features contributions from members of The Folk Orchestra, The Be Good Tanyas live band, Magoo and The Low Country and showcases choice tracks from a body of material that’s been making audiences round the country grin like idiots and frug like fools.

If your heart can’t warm to a chorus like “What do we do when the booze runs out?” get an x-ray and check it’s still there.
